Ekadashi 2083

एकादशी २०८३

Ekadashi (एकादशी) is the eleventh lunar day in each fortnight of the Hindu month. There are two ekadashis in every Nepali month — one in Krishna Paksha (waning moon) and one in Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) — for a total of 24 in a year. Hindus observe a strict fast on each, traditionally without grains, in worship of Lord Vishnu.

    Jestha Shukla Ekadashi

    The most strict ekadashi of the year — observed without water. Equivalent to all other 23 ekadashis combined.

    Vishnu enters yoga-nidra (cosmic sleep) for four months. Marks the start of Chaturmas — auspicious ceremonies pause until Hari Bodhini Ekadashi.

    Vishnu awakens from his four-month yoga-nidra. Marks the end of Chaturmas — auspicious ceremonies (weddings, sacred-thread, etc.) resume.
